Low-Class Dreamer 2

Being Accepted
---

Juliet spent the rest of the lunch period thinking about Riley, and wondered if she would see him again; secretly, she hoped that she could befriend him and used that thought to drown out all the insults she'd been hearing all day.

--

The end-of-lunch bell blared loudly and Juliet sighed and headed to her next class -- she saw dozens of couples holding hands and even sharing a quick kiss or two in the hallways and immediately felt her heart drop. Everyone has a boyfriend but me... does rank really matter that much? Maybe I really do belong outside by the dumpster.

She wasn't paying attention and accidentally ran into someone -- it was the attractive Human from earlier. "Oh! I'm s-so sorry!" Juliet blurted. "Oh hey, you're the girl from lunch." He looked at her for a moment, then away. "Wh-what's your name?" She had to muster all her courage to ask. "Um, Geode."

"Oh... thank you, Geode! And... sorry again for... bumping into you..."

Geode was eager to leave. "Yeah uh, no problem. I've gotta get going, bye!" He left without another word. Was he disgusted by me...?

After school, Riley had been waiting at the gates for her and called out to her as she walked, staring at the ground. "Uh!" Juliet looked up, slightly frightened, but immediately calmed down when she realized it was him again. "Oh... Riley. Um, th-thank you so much for earlier!" She bowed courteously and looked up, smiling faintly. "What can I do for you?"

"Wanna hang out? Riley asked plainly, crushing his empty can of Magi-Soda. "H-hang out...? But I'm--"

"Low rank? Who gives a damn. I'm a demon, I do what I want." He tossed the can into the distant garbage can, and several girls swooned as they walked by. "I'm sick of these 'nobles', they think rank is everything... they're just a buncha prim and proper idiots. I hate it. You're different, your aura is unique. So why don't you hang out with me? I'll keep the bullies away."

No one's ever wanted to 'hang out' with me before... but my parents will be upset with me if I'm home late. But... I might not get this chance again if I turn him down! Juliet nodded happily, "Okay! I'll go with you," She gripped her school bag, smiling nervously. "Great, I knew you weren't lame. C'mon then, follow me!" Riley sprinted off. "H-hey!" Juliet struggled to keep up with him. "Wait for me!" She cried, soon tripping over a bump in the sidewalk.

Riley did a nimble back flip and turned slightly, holding out his arms and gracefully catching her; she blushed madly, but her body felt petrified. "Hey babe, you're really cute up close... and that clumsiness of yours ain't bad..." He winked, and she finally managed to pull herself away. "S-sorry!" Oh gosh, I just made myself look like an idiot... but he's so nice to me. He's so cool...

The demon boy spotted Geode glaring from across the street and smirked, then pulled Juliet close and kissed her lightly on the lips - he watched the Human look away in disgust. Heh, that punk's mad. This one's mine, Geode...

Juliet pushed Riley away weakly, then hid her bright red face in her hands. "O-oh!! That was... that was--!!" My first kiss... but why would Riley kiss me? Why...?! She was extremely confused, but Riley hugged her. "Hey, I want you to be my girlfriend. I like you, you're not like the others. You're... my type. If you're my girl, all those bullies will leave you alone... if you're worried about rank, I'm Triple S - with me, you're practically a celebrity!"

Celebrity... girlfriend... GIRLFRIEND?! "Wh-what? I'm afraid I don't understand... this is all happening so quickly... it's making me dizzy. I'm confused! You want me to be..." She gulped. "Your... g-girlfriend? But... we just met!" Riley snorted, patting her shoulders as he narrowed his eyes at her. "So what? I know what I want, and once I set my eyes on something I want... I have to have it. So tell me, how can I win you over?"

"Money? Fame? Friends? I can give you anything, babe." Riley gave her a toothy grin and stepped away, then twirled around and winked, making a gun gesture with his hand and pointing at her heart. "Bang!" He exclaimed. "Your heart's mine now! Right?"

Juliet was too confused to make a wise decision, but she decided that staying with Riley would only mean good things for her - besides, what could go wrong? He was cool, good-looking and popular to boot, and to top it all off... he has a super high rank. Even my parents will have to accept me if I start dating a Triple S. That's the absolute highest... even my parents are only S rank. I can't imagine what sort of family Riley must be from...

She gazed at him sheepishly as he continued to grin. "Okay Riley. I... I'll date you..." The wolf-girl smiled, not knowing what she was getting herself into. "But um, I've never dated before, so--"

"You'll date me?!" Riley looked genuinely surprised and gleeful. "Great! I'm gonna show you off to everyone. Oh, I should take you to meet my friends..." He smirked devilishly and took Juliet's hand. "C'mon Julie, I'll show you what it's like to live on the other side!" He pulled her along, and for the first time in her life... Juliet realized what it felt like to be accepted.

Maybe Riley... is my shining star! I can't believe I finally have a boyfriend... I'm so... happy! It feels so good, being accepted like this! "Thank you, Riley..." Juliet mumbled as they ran along the street.

Meanwhile, Geode had been watching from across the street the entire time; he glared at the wolf-girl and demon boy as they faded from view. "Humph, what do I care...?"
