The Three Sisters (2)

The Sisters I Never Had
---

Seven days passed quickly, and I managed to pick several possible tenants to interview - 3:00 PM was still many hours away, yet I couldn't help feeling anxious. Would there be two girls to 'fit the bill' or would I be sending them all away? I found myself constantly glancing at the clock on my computer, sighing endlessly as the awaited time approached...

Until finally, it was 3:00 PM; I let the eleven young women into the house and told them to wait in the lobby for me to call them in for an interview. The first girl I called into my office was in her mid-twenties, and when she sat down she propped her feet up on my desk - to think that someone in need of a place to live would be so rude!

I sent her away after a few words, she admitted to having a boyfriend and pleaded to bring him over on the weekends, but as I stated in the rules: ABSOLUTELY NO MEN ALLOWED.

Sigh. This will be an interesting day indeed...

--

I poked my head out through the office door, "Sarah? You're up next, dear." Sarah was a pretty girl, but when she came into my office, I asked her why she was moving away at such a young age - only sixteen. The girl nearly broke down in tears as she explained her family situation, but said that she only needed a place to stay for a short time.

Sadly, I needed a more permanent resident, so I told her to look elsewhere - I couldn't afford to have a teenager depending on me so much, since I prefer to keep stress away. I interviewed girl after girl, sending them all home until finally, only two girls remained; I was starting to feel hopeless, thinking maybe this was a bad idea.

Finally, there were only two girls left in the lobby.

"Willow?" I called out to the girl with long, orange, braided twin-tails. "Yes!" She replied with much excitement, "I got this, I GOT THIS!" She glanced over to Tess, who was reading a magazine with little interest. "GOOD LUCK TO YOU TOO, RANDOM LADY!" Willow skipped over to my office and I giggled - her energetic nature was charming.

We sat down and Willow was looking around the room, curiously. "Hey, hey! Nice place you got here! Still, it could use some color.. hmmm..."

"Willow?" I glanced at her application, then slowly looked back up at her. "It says here you were kicked out of your home?"

"Yeeeaahhh..." Willow scratched her cheek. "B-but I'm not a bad person! It's just... well, Mom got mad 'cuz I like to paint and stuff, and well... I kinda-sorta dropped out of college... but I'm a hard worker, really! I have a job--although I kinda have to switch jobs a lot 'cuz of, reasons... but I'm a good girl! I swear! Reeeaaallyy! Would these eyes lie?"

Kicked out of the house, huh? She seems pretty lively and outspoken, so someone like her would be perfect for going out and getting groceries... I can tell she's innocent although perhaps a bit absent-minded ...heh heh, I think she's perfect! Definitely someone who can be manipulated into taking care of some menial tasks. Not only that, but...

"You're a really cheerful girl, Willow. I think it'd be fun to have you live here with me!" I said, smiling warmly. "W-what?!" Willow stood up. "REALLY?! WOOOO!" She cheered, raising her arms as her emerald eyes gleamed. "I was soooo nervous, man! I thought I was gonna have to live in a box or somethin'! Thanks so much, I owe ya one! Really~ If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask 'ol Willow, mmkay?"

"Heehee, okay, okay. Here, sign the contract and you're all set! I've already prepared a room, so just come back tomorrow morning and we'll get you all settled in!"

"YAAAY! Thanks, Big Sis! Can I call ya that?" She asked cheerily as she scribbled down her name and drew a 3D star beside it.

"Ah, sure, that's fine. Great! You're all set. See you tomorrow then, Willow!"

--

After that, I interviewed Tess, a twenty-six year old woman with long black hair: she was quiet, mysterious, independent... and had a lot of money. "So, Tess, you seem to be very wealthy... why is it that you want to live here?"

Tess leaned back in her chair, her orange eyes closed as she shrugged. "Hm, it looks like a good place to crash - I won't be bothered here, so I feel that my stuff would be safe. As you know, sometimes I'm away for long periods of time for work, so a place like this was ideal for me to find."

"Mmmhmm, I see. You haven't listed a workplace, but I assume it's...ehm, personal..." Could it be that she works as a... a stripper or dancer of sorts...? I eyed Tess and cringed as I imagined what it must be like for a woman to work in such an environment. She definitely has the beauty for it, and she seems to be someone who would crush a pervert under her boot. Yes, very strong and reliable... Tess is perfect for the other half of my plan.

"Yep, I hope that's alright with you. I prefer not to disclose my occupation - if you want to pry, then I'm afraid--"

"Oh, no, no! It's fine, I completely understand! Well," I placed my hand on a second contract. "You can stay here as long as you'd like, but would you mind taking care of the bills? I'll give you a discount on rent in exchange."

Tess opened her eyes. "Hm? Sure, that's fine with me."

"Great, just sign here and you're all set!"

That moment marked the beginning of my new, exciting life with Willow and Tess.

Three Months Later...

Things have been more enjoyable and lively around here since Tess and Willow moved in - these two are like day and night! I'm starting to wonder if this is what being a mother feels like, but I wouldn't have it any other way. They're both nice girls with good hearts - just a little rough around the edges!

I was sitting on the couch with my laptop, surfing the web as usual when all of a sudden, Willow came running through the room with Tess chasing after her, shouting: "YOU! Don't run away! You broke my hair dryer and you're gonna replace it!" She held up the fried hair dryer, shaking it back and worth.

Willow put her hands on her hips and stuck out her tongue "Hey! I didn't do it on purpose! That thing was a piece of junk, Tess! You needed a new one anyways~ but why make me buy it?"

"Because you broke it!"

"You left it there on purpose because you knew it'd break! I'm not buyin it, nyeehhh!!!"

"Grrrr, I'm gonna flush your paints down the toilet, then!" Tess threatened, smirking.

"WHA-- NO!" Willow cried.

I glanced over at them with a giggle, "Now, now, ladies... we're all friends here, no fighting!"

"SHE STARTED IT!" They both cried, pointing at the other. "Arrgh, stop dragging me down to your level!" Tess grumbled, rubbing her temples.

"Naawww!! You're just like me deep down, Tess! Teehee!" Willow poked the older woman in the side and giggled. "We're like sisters!"

"Sisters?" Tess repeated, lowering her arms. "Humph..."

"Aaaah! Look, Angie! Tessie didn't deny it! She didn't deny it! Hehehehe! Come on, Angie, let's all play or something! You guys are always being sticks in the mud!"

"Play...?" I blinked. "No, thank you, I'm content just surfing the web."

"What about my hair dryer, you little twerp, Willow?" Tess glared at her. "Aaah! OK, OK! I challenge you to a pillow fight! Loser buys the hair dryer!" Willow said, grinning as she picked up a large pillow. "Ready... set... GO!"

Willow tossed the pillow at me at full force, but as I didn't see it coming, it hit me right in the face and knocked my glasses off. "Ohoho, Willow, you're gonna get crushed!" Tess shouted, tossing a frilly pillow at Willow. "Nyaaah!! NEVER!" The girl refused.

I reached for my glasses and put them back on, then stood up. "...." I glared at the both of them as they continued fighting with pillows, but I couldn't be mad - no, it was the opposite: I started laughing!

"OK you guys," I said, grabbing the largest pillow in the room. "This time, I will mediate with brute force!" I ran over and hit them both at the same time - they couldn't have expected me to join in, so they were easy targets!

"WAAA! Angie is joining in! It's a triple fight to the death, WHO WILL BUY THE DRYER?!" Willow shouted as she blocked a pillow attack from Tess with her own pillow.

"Not me!" I giggled, hitting Tess in the back with a pillow.

"Hey! I can't believe you're getting involved, too! Well, don't expect me to go easy on ya just 'cuz you're the landlord, Angel!" Tess cried, raising her pillow as she smirked.

"I shan't be defeated!" I stated, standing tall. "You cannot intimidate me!"

The pillow fight continued for some time before we all collapsed from exhaustion. "Ha-ha! I win!" Willow cried.

"Huh?! No way. We all collapsed!" Tess insisted.

"Teehee, that's right!" I laughed. "I guess it's a tie, so let's all pitch in to buy a new hair dryer!"

"Aawww... okaaayy... if Big Sis says so!" Willow gave in.

"Fine, but if you break this one too... I really will flush your paints, Willow!" Tess threatened, laughing. I giggled uncontrollably at the thought and Willow was infected with laughter as well, followed by Tess.

It had been an enjoyable day for us, and there would be many more to come! I felt happier than ever now that Tess and Willow were living with me; I'm grateful to have them around, and I feel that the three of us will continue to grow together. If I'm honest with myself...

They are like the sisters I never had, but always wanted. Heehee, maybe I should tell them, one day...
